Santa Barbara Castle Alicante

A Very old castle ruin with terrific views over Alicante and the harbour, Access is by lift which is situated across the bridge on the promenade.

See the fabulous boats and liners in the marina (see how the other half live). There are many restaurants and bars. There is usually a flea market in along the boulevard in the early evenings. 

The Island of Tabarca

Take a boat from the promenade at Alicante to the Island of Tabarca. The journey takes about 45 mins. Once on the island why not go for a swim or relax in one of the many restaurants having a meal or indulging in the local favourite "Tapas"? Then if your want to take in some local culture then visit the old church. (remember to check boat timetable for your journey back to the mainland).

Santa Pola

Ideal for a nice day at the beach, why not take a picnic? Santa Pola is about 10 mins south of Alicante. While your in the area why not visit the near by town of Elche. It's famous for having one of the largest date palm forests in Europe. For you culture vulture's well worth a visit is the Basilica of Santa Maria a baroque style church dating from the 17th century.

San Juan Beach

This is a magnificent five mile beach of unspoilt sand, not a pebble in sight.  Perfect for swimming, scuba diving, windsurfing and paragliding. For the less energetic sun beds can be hired on the beach. Now you have a perfect tan why not show it off around the many shops and restaurants that can be found in the town.

Campello

About 20 minutes walk from your villa. Here you can find a newly refurbished promenade and beach with several restaurants, bars and shops. Further into town you will find supermarkets banks and various shops. Campello is ideal for a less energetic day out as it is especially nice to stroll along the promenade or to sit in one of the many cafes and watch the world go by.

Villajoyosa

Another long perfect beach lined with palm trees. There are plenty of bars and restaurants situated along the front and amid the brightly coloured houses. Fishing trips can be arranged in the harbour. Market day is Thursday.

Guadalest

A picturesque Moorish fortress village built about 1200 years ago, hidden amidst the peaks of the marvellous Aitana mountains. There are many souvenir shops that stock lace and leather goods. Several restaurants and bars provide shady rest. As the second most visited place in Spain you should try to make this trip, but be warned there are a lot of steps so it is not suitable for the infirm.  There is a coach service from Benidorm (Info from the local Tourist Office) but it is far better to go by private transport (40 mins) and combined with a visit to the Algar Waterfalls makes it a good day out. There are many restaurants and shops just out side the fortress of Guadalest.

Algar Waterfalls

A beautiful natural valley about 15 minutes from Guadalest. From the car park you pass through the Café to the bridge at the foot of a lovely waterfall, as you climb the steps to the side of the falls you discover several ice cool fresh water pools, great for a swim on a hot day. This is truly a magical place, however it can become over crowded during August.

Calpe

Throughout history Calpe has been an area of passage and settlement of numerous civilisations. Again ideal for the culture vultures, is a walk through the old town with a visit to the Fester Museum  the archaeological museum . Climb the hill to the chapel of San Salvador built in the 18th century. Calpe is a town truly steeped in history. A climb up to the Penón de Ifach for the panoramic views is a must do.

Cuevas del Canelobre, Busot

the Interior of the caves has got one of the highest vaults in all of Spain. It is said to be very similar to that of a cathedral. During your visit you can admire the varied and whimsical forms that the rocks have adapted, such as Candelabra, Animals and many other spectacular shapes. The acoustic and atmospheric conditions of the caves are unsurpassable.

Bonalba Golf

Bonalba golf is an 18 hole par 72 golf course. It boasts a practice green, Driving range and full pro shop. There is also a restaurant and cafeteria. It is possible to rent clubs. Contact 96-597-0511.
